This work “An Analytical Cross Referenced Sanskrit Grammar” by Lennart Warnemyr MA, M.Sc. is protected by Copyright © 2005 Lennart Warnemyr and may not be reproduced, republished or mirrored on another webpage or website. The only exception to this is the information (but not the layout) in the description of roots which stems from Whitney (1885) and Cappeller (1891) both of which the copyright has expired (see below) and can not be renewed by me or anybody else.

I have freely used information from four books and I have been able to do so because their copyright has expired. In the following I will show just that. The four books are:

Whitney, William Dwight, 1827-1894.

The roots, verb-forms, and primary derivatives of the Sanskrit language. Leipzig: Breitkopf and Härtel 1885.

Whitney, William Dwight, 1827-1894.

A Sanskrit grammar, including both the classical language, and the older dialects, of Veda and Brahmana. 3d ed. Leipzig: Breitkopf & Härtel, 1896.

Speyer, Jacob Samuel, 1849-1913.

Sanskrit syntax, by Dr. J. S. Speyer; with an introduction by Dr. H. Kern. Leyden: E.J. Brill, 1886.

Cappeller, Carl 1840-1925.

A Sanskrit-English dictionary : based upon the St. Petersburg lexicons / by Carl Cappeller. Strassburg : Trübner, 1891.

To be on the safe side I will calculate when the copyright expired for each book, using:

the law of the country where the book was published

the law of the country where the author lived

the law of Sweden (where this is published)

the international agreement (Berne convention)

In short, the laws states the following:

Sweden

The work is protected “intill utgången av sjuttionde året efter det år då upphovsmannen avled”1 i.e. until the end of the 70th year after the authors death.

In my computation I will add 71 years.

USA

a) The work is protected 56 years after its publication date.

b) If the work is still protected at January 1, 1978, then the work is protected 75 years after its publication.

c) If the work is still protected at October 27, 1998, then the work is protected 20 years more than calculated by b).2

Netherlands

“Auteursrecht eindigt pas na 70 jaar, te rekenen vanaf de eerste januari, volgende op het jaar waarin de maker is overleden.”3 i.e 70 years after the first 1st January after the authors death.

In my computation I will add 71 years.

Germany

The work is protected “nach Ablauf von fünfzig Jahren nach dem Tode des Urhebers”4, i.e. 50 years after the authors death.

In my computation I will add 50 years.

France

“Au décès de l'auteur, ce droit persiste au bénéfice de ses ayants droit pendant l'année civile en cours et les cinquante années qui suivent.”5 i.e. the work is protected 50 years after the authors death.

In my computation I will add 50 years.

Berne

“The term of protection granted by this Convention shall be the life of the author and fifty years after his death.”6

In my computation I will add 50 years.
