Reckoned by the grammarians as present-system to √ 2 śad; and this is curiously supported by JB., which has (ii. 81) upaśīyate tasmād upaśadam, and (ii. 82) avaśīyante tasmāc chadaḥ. So far as the meaning is concerned, it might well be a specialization of √ 2 śī.
