The forms from pres.-stem vāya have mostly the sense “be blown or ex-hausted”, and are generally referred to a different root, √ 2 vā. The two, however, seem evidently only two sides of the same original root, nor are the forms capable of being clearly devided between them.

anu blow towards or after (A), inflame, rouse.

abhi &

ā blow towards or hither.

ava blow down.

upa cease to blow, be extinguished.

nis blow, also = prec. Caus. nirvāpayati extinguish, allay, refresh, delight.

parā blow away.

pra blow, be exhaled or spread (odour).

vi blow asunder or through.

sam blow.
